Direct Digital Democracy: The Future of Politics?

Over in Hackney a political revolution is taking place. Denny de la Haye, an independent candidate for Hackney South and Shoreditch, has taken a radical new approach to his candidacy. If elected, de la Haye has promised to set up an online poll for each issue debated in Parliament and voting the way the people of his borough tell him to!

The candidate has named this method "Direct Digital Democracy". He explains on the Getavote website: "How will it work? For each vote coming up in Parliament, I will put a poll on this website. Every voter living in Hackney South will have a login for this website, and will be able to vote in the polls using their computer or their mobile phone. Whatever the majority vote is, I will vote that way."
Do you think this is the right approach? Would you like to see a similar method introduced in Pimlico? It certainly seems fair (power to the people) but will people abuse the method? Should an MP follow the people's decision or should they be a leader and decide for themselves? Is this method going to be safe - it could attract the attention of hackers couldn't it? Let us know what you think of this.

I can't see how this would work. The whole point of an MP getting elected is because they are a leader and the voters have chosen them because of the plans they have. If Denny de la Haye is elected then noboday in the borough knows what his own thoughts are or what the future holds in store for their area!
