What the council will do about Westminster's Children's Centres

Due to the government’s reduction of the
funding for Sure Start Children’s Centres nationally, Westminster has to save
17% from their children’s centre budget for 2011/12. As a result, changes will
naturally occur.
There are already financial restraints on
the council so this is a tough time for parents and families reliant on the
children’s centres. There are 12 Sure Start Children’s Centres that are run by
the Westminster City Council, offering families with children under five access
to information on early education, health services, support with parenting
skills, tips for parents on how to get back into employment and an outreach
service.
Last month the council consulted parents on
the issue and discussed the proposal for a new model for Westminster Children’s
Centres. If you haven’t read the consultation yet you can do so by clicking on
the link.
You can also read the response by clicking
on the link, which includes a summary of things that were asked, the feedback
from parents, and what the council plans to do a result of this.
We’d like to hear your opinions so let us
know what you think of this.
