Pupils
-
Pimlico Academy
from Pimlico Academy were treated to a maths lesson at HSBC’s headquarters in
Canary Wharf where they gained an insight into how a bank is operated and where
they listened to talks from some of the UK’s best bank managers.
The
students’ trip was a prize they achieved for scoring one of the highest marks
in a maths challenge that was set for teenagers at 22 UK schools at the end of
2010.
The
pupils were all given a short introduction to the purpose of money, and were
taught how to basically save and invest, and the use of tax systems.
Participating students were aged between 11 and 14 and had to use imaginary
stocks, commodities and cash to trade in a 20-minute race. The info was based
on companies they had learned of in news stories.
First, the independent education charity, helped create the challenge for the
young students. The charity recruits and trains top graduates to work in
schools that are located in some of the most deprived parts of the country.
If
you attended the special maths lesson then we’d love to hear your thoughts on.
