A divorce workout. And not one leotard in sight.

Divorce is tough,
no one will dispute that, and just like bereavement, it can be the most
difficult time a person will ever go through.
With so much
emotion, anxiety and hurt in the equation it can be difficult for people to
know where to turn for help. You may feel you are overburdening friends and
family and also that no-one really understands what you are going through. It can make you feel very alone and isolated
even though statistically you know you are not the only one.
This increase in
the divorce statistics has resulted in the growth of divorce support, as a means of dealing with, at
times, overwhelming emotions and overcoming the anxiety and stress that people experience both, during and after
divorce.
If people need
help, they typically book a series of individual weekly sessions with a
counsellor or therapist, which can last weeks or months. Now, Pimlico residents have an
added approach to dealing with the pain
of divorce. In our fast paced, time poor society, divorce workouts (or
workshops, to us in the UK)
are now the new way to battle through your heartache – and there isn't a shred
of lycra in sight.
Successful in the
US for many years now, divorce workshops are
one day workshops set up to help people feel better sooner, feel less
alone and isolated, make new friends with people who they have much in common and
begin to understand and cope with bewildering emotions. These divorce workshops are also designed to
help people understand that divorce is not only an end but is also a new
beginning.
Divorce Workshops
run by Divorce Support Group are small and relaxed and at the end, everyone
exchanges contact details and carries on seeing each other. It is an enormously helpful experience to
share stories, realise you are not the only one and to learn how others cope. Divorce
Support Group, is the UK's
only professionally run organisation specifically set up for helping
people cope with and manage their divorce.
Charlotte Friedman, founder of Divorce Support Group says
''Workshops have different benefits to individual counselling which we also
offer too. They give a one day
experience of the 10 week local groups that we run the rest of the time. The Workshops are once a month on a Saturday
which makes it easier for people to attend if they find 10 weeks difficult to
manage time-wise."
There is no quick
and easy solution to getting over your divorce. Divorce is a process and it is
important to understand how to manage your feelings. You can ensure though that you are dealing
with it in the best way possible by talking to a professional who will listen
and provide you with understanding and help.
Divorce Support Group was set up to help make separation manageable.
