Westminster City Council has gritted the roads in preparation against  ice and snow. This is the first time in five years that gritting lorries have been deployed in mid-March.  Gritting lorries from Brent were sent to central London at 8pm on Sunday night (March 10th) and will  be  treating roads, such as Oxford Street, Piccadilly and Whitehall, for at least the following 24 hours.

Cllr. Ed Argar, Westminster City Council cabinet member for City Management, said: "Although keeping Westminster's 190 miles of road is no easy task, we are confident our fleet of hi-tech vehicles gives us the advantage in our work to keep the city moving."
