Thief who ignored Westminster banning ASBO jailed for 12 months

Guram Sikharulidze, (25), a thief of no fixed abode was under surveillance by officers from Brent Crime Squad and the Territorial Support Group (TSG)  when he was arrested in a Westminster Car Park on 6th March 2013 for theft from motor vehicle, conspiracy to steal, possession of cannabis and breach of an ASBO.   He was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment at Hendon Magistrates Court on 8th March 2013. 

He had been followed by Police from an address in Shepherds Bush. After  travelling by tube to Marble Arch station he went to several NCP car parks in the area looking for high value motor vehicles.  At 3.00pm he was observed entering the NCP car park in Adam's Row W1. He took a fire extinguisher off the wall and used it to smash the rear window of a Range Rover. He removed a suitcase and Selfridges bag containing valuables from the vehicle and made off. He was arrested shortly after near  the car park and the stolen items were recovered.

Sikharulidze was charged with two counts of theft, one count of vehicle interference, one count of possession of cannabis and breach of the ASBO. He pleaded guilty at court.

Detective Constable Dax Hollick said: "I am pleased with the swift justice handed out by the Magistrate. Sikharulidze has been a plague to NCP and hotel car parks in the London area. The fact that he had an ASBO banning him from Westminster Borough and all NCP car parks in England and Wales indicates how prolific this criminal was. Hopefully people can now park their vehicles in NCP car parks without suffering the upset, damage and theft caused by this criminal. Sikharulidze historically committed offences in Westminster Borough, however, by venturing on to Brent Borough he came to our attention, was targeted, arrested and convicted. Brent Crime Squad will enthusiastically continue to covertly target offenders committing offences on our borough".
