In a sensational dawn raid today police arrested a man believed to be a member of the notorious knife-wielding gang that targeted lone women in Pimlico in a spate of robberies towards the end of 2011.
The 32-year-old was escorted away by officers of the Westminster Crime Squad who swooped in on his third-floor one-bedroom flat in Notting Hill. The officers forced their way into the man's property with the use of a battering ram.
Simultaneously, another raid took place on a second suspect's home on Ashmore Road, Queen's Park. Officers were vigilant with this second suspect because he was said to be extremely violent and kept an axe behind his door. He was also believed to be in possession of a samurai sword.
Though this suspect was not in, police discovered stolen vehicles in three lock-up garages, including a Mini convertible.
A total of eight attacks took place on lone women in Pimlico in November last year, some of whom had knives pulled on them, leading to the vicious gang being nicknamed the "Pimlico Prowlers" and a vigilante group of local residents patrolling the neighbourhood.
