Two men, one of whom was from Pimlico, have been given life sentences for their callous torture of a love rival who died from his severe injuries.

Gary Speight, 31 and from Pimlico, was told he will serve a minimum of 30 years for the murder of 36-year-old Anthony Bates. Speight's accomplice, Dean Swift, 44, was told he will serve at least 28 years in prison.

The Old Bailey learnt how the pair subjected Bates to horrific forms of torture over the course of one day; the victim was beaten, burnt with a red-hot poker and boiling sugar, and cut with a knife. Bates' crime was starting a relationship with Speight's ex-girlfriend, Corrina Lowe.

Lowe, 28, was cleared of any involvement in the murder.
