Enjoy a free day of games and activities and try a new sport for the first time at a Westminster leisure centre this weekend.
The Queen Mother Sports Centre, in Vauxhall Bridge Road, is hosting a 'Be Inspired' open day on Saturday 23 March 2013.
Visitors will be able to try a range of sporting challenges, including football, basketball and swimming while athletes and coaches will be on-hand to offer training tips and advice to budding sports stars.
Throughout the day, which runs from 10am to 3pm, people will be actively encouraged to sign-up sports to classes a Westminster City Council leisure centre.
The event is the second of its kind at Queen Mother sports centre, and it aims to inspire Westminster residents to try out a new sport or activity for the first time. People attending the open day will also be entered into a prize draw for some sporting tickets and vouchers.
The day is being run by Better – the Westminster City Council contractor which manages the authority's leisure facilities.
Cllr Steve Summers, Westminster City Council cabinet member for the community, said:
"The council is committed to creating a lasting legacy from last summer's games.
"Events like this engage people in sport and it gives people the chance to try a new activity for free.
"Just a few hours a week of physical activity can make a huge difference to people's lives and we are encouraging everyone to take those positive first steps towards a healthier lifestyle."
Better is the trading name of GLL: an employee-owned society that exists for the benefits of the community. Based on charitable objectives, GLL oversees the management of over 100 public leisure centres across the south of England and York. GLL manages nine Westminster City Council leisure centres.
