Don't miss a free event taking place on the Churchill Gardens Estate on Saturday (Feb 23). An anti-gang project which aims to steer youngsters away from a life of crime is coming to Pimlico.

Westminster City Council's Your Choice roadshow brings a day's events to the area - based at Johnson's Place, opposite Coleridge House between 11am – 4pm, this is your opportunity to encourage Pimlico youth to get involved in  fun activities – such as Parkour freerunning and graffiti art – and help promote the message that there are alternatives to a live of crime. The roadshow will also address residents' concerns about gang activity.

Cllr Nickie Aiken said: "The urgency and importance of the schemes was brought into sharp focus earlier this year.

"The problem with gangs impacts on all our lives – and, unfortunately, Westminster isn't immune.

"This was something we recognised in 2010 and have been working hard to eradicate.

"That is why we set up the Your Choice programme to offer young people real options away from the supposed temptations that gangs can offer."

This project is one of many initiatives sponsored by Westminster aimed at transforming the lives of young people and their communities. One of these is the European Commission funded Youth SecUre Streets (YUS) project which has been working with young people and residents to develop local solutions.

Westminster teenagers will also interview politicians and police about the gang problems for London youth radio station Reprezent 107.3 FM.

Youngsters across South Westminster will be encouraged to choose the right path.

Next month will see the start of weekly surgeries covering all social, housing and crime issues in the Churchill Gardens Estate Office.

The surgeries which start on Thursday March 7, will run from 4 – 7pm will include representatives from the council, police and CityWest Homes.
